At the turn of November and December 2016, we asked the readers of oknotest.pl about the preferred performance of windows and balcony doors. Within 16 days, the survey was completed by just over 500 people. What window features are considered important?
Below are the results of our survey:
80.24% Heat transfer
51.61% Sound insulation
44.76% Air permeability
42.74% Resistance to repeated opening and closing
39.52% Wind load resistance
35.48% Water tightness
31.05% Resistance to burglary
12.10% Operating forces
What do the answers given show? First, an increase in “technical” awareness for both sellers and buyers. This is a positive phenomenon, because not so long ago, few people knew that windows have any useful properties at all.
Secondly, the disastrous effect of shallow marketing in the window industry in the information message, creating the impression of a lack of dependence between the various functional properties of windows and balcony doors. Respondents clearly miss the relationship between heat permeability and air permeability and their combined effect on “energy efficiency” understood as a desirable reduction of energy expenditure and energy loss for space heating. Similarly to the relationship between the mechanical durability of a product, expressed in resistance to repeated opening and closing, and the ease of use associated with operating forces, despite the fact that “window adjustments” are one of the most common reasons for complaints.
Thirdly, noise turns out to be a greater threat than uninvited guests! This is an interesting tip for window manufacturers competing on the domestic market.
Thank you to everyone who wanted to take the time to complete the survey. Thanks to your cooperation in the near future we will be able to create publications and conduct research that will provide precise information tailored to the needs and interests of readers.
